Celebrating 22 years in the recording Industry 

Nestled in the beautiful countryside just 45 minutes north west of Toronto Ontario Canada. Escarpment Sound Studio offers a relaxed atmosphere in one of the best live rooms around. 


Established in 1986 our 3000 sq. ft. Pine and Stone
Pro Tools HD Studio is built in a century old stone barn on 23 private acres.

The main recording area is 800 sq. ft. with a 25 ft. high cathedral ceiling and 3 stone walls (very live) . There are two isolation booths with good eye contact everywhere. The control room is 400 sq. ft. with plenty of room for listening and playing.

The lounge area is very large and offers a pool table, microwave, coffee area and woodstove. There is also an upstairs lounge with Satellite television, DVD and surround sound ,sitting area and sofa bed. Food and convenience stores are just minutes away. The 3rd lounge has 2 stone walls and could also be used as a recording area .

Sessions & Studio News

Stompin Tom Connor's was in working on his newest Cd project with Brian Hewson Engineering and Phil Spencer assisting . This is Tom's 9th CD project with Escarpment and his 50th album. EMI  should be releasing it in the fall.  

Neil Cotton is working on his latest CD project with Brian Hewson 

Producer Les Cooper and Engineer David Travers Smith were in working on a Cd for the girls in Madison Violet.

The Jazz Trio Interplay are in working on a new CD with Brian Hewson Engineering.

Oliver Schroer was in working on finishing up an old  CD project with Andrew St. George Engineering . 

Turner Fenton High School was in recently with the Junior and Senior Bands and the Choir doing there 2007 2008 Cd . Engineered by Brian Hewson and Phil Spencer

The students from Marion Abbott's Performing Arts Studio were in doing a CD with Brian Hewson .

Euphoric Moon has been in Doing a EP with Brian Hewson and Phil Spencer.

Montreal Singer, musical story teller Taxi John is currently mastering his second CD at Escarpment with Andrew St.George.

The Trombone Quartet "Slide by Slide" has finished  there new CD with Brian Hewson engineering , mastering by Andrew St. George.

Andrew St.George has almost wrapped up production  on the Speak Ezy debut CD nine songs have been finished at this point . 

Anne Lindsay's new CD "News From Up the Street" recorded and mixed at Escarpment Sound by Andrew St. George has won  two awards at the Canadian Folk Music Awards :Best Instrumentalist - solo , and Producer of the year Anne Lindsay & Oliver Schroer.

Tim Posgate was in with his horn band with Howard Johnson recording  live for his new CD. Andrew St. George and Phil Spencer Engineers.

Oliver Schroer has also just released his newest Cd "Hymns and Hers " which was recorded at many  locations  and mixed and Mastered at Escarpment By Andrew St. George .

Marcia Barnes has finished   her new  CD  "MY SOUL TALKING "with Brian Hewson Engineering, Andrew St. George mastering . 

Ravi Naimpally was in recently with his 7 piece band TASA, recording live off the floor for his new CD project . Andrew St. George and Phil Spencer engineering .

John Moore, a singer guitarist from Hawaii was in recently to do bed tracks for his new CD project . Andrew St. George and Phil Spencer were Engineers and Stephen Traub was Producing . Also on the project was local talent Matt Brubeck on Cello.

The hard rock band GUNZ N FN ROSEZ were in putting down some tracks with Brian Hewson and Phil Spencer .

Andrew and Brian have been working together on a project called Holy Go Faithful, with Anthony Vucenovic.

Guitarist Tony McMannus has been in doing tracks for his latest CD project , Engineered by John Bailey and Phil Spencer.

The band Kicking Trudy is in working on a new CD with Brian Hewson Engineering.

What's New

We now have another Furman 16 channel headphone mixer for a total of 6 giving everyone there own personal headphone mix .

9 Mogami 35 foot mic lines have been added from the main room to the control room for Engineers and Producers who would like to bring there own pre amps  etc. 

Latest additions to our front end includes a Beyer M160 ribbon and a Sony
C-38B condenser microphones. They're both studio classics and versatile
mics.
Two channels of classic API 312 preamps now add another flavor to the
recording chain.
Our recently acquired 8 channel GENEX GXA8 ,and GXD8 top end  converters further improve the recording quality and IO count for our Pro Tools system.

Millennia Media TD-1   Pre amp , EQ & DI .    A superb quality  front end for microphones, instruments, re-amping and more .

We Have just added two channels of Urei LA-4's to our ever growing outboard arsenal. This is a vintage opto stereo compressor.

Now Featuring Recording Courses

Escarpment Sound is now offering courses in recording techniques and Pro Tools systems. Using Escarpment Sound’s studio students will receive hands on training in the following areas

  • How to get great sounds
  • Mixing Consoles
  • Pro Tools

Courses are taught by Brian Hewson who has been a Recording Engineer for the last 28 years and taught Advanced Audio at Sheridan College for 14 years. Our Classes are one-on-one and tailored specifically to your needs.
