Andrew
St. George
has
a truly colorful
background in music and
audio engineering.
Arrived
in Toronto around 1980, just off a ten year long
professional drumming
engagement. Native of Hungary, he has played all possible styles of music and
got
hooked
on the recording aspect while playing for record and movie dates in Europe’s
most
respected studios.
After setting up shop in Toronto, he never looked back. Although his basic
analog four track
studio
took off at incredible rate; he formed a pop rock band, “The Start”.
His
demos immediately landed them a Capitol recording contract and during the bands
short
lived existence he has played some major concerts alongside the likes of The
Pretenders,
B-52’s,
Elvis Costello and Gary Newman. The most important connection Andrew made
was
however with recording industry great, Daniel Lanois who was the engineer for
the band’s
only
album “Hey You”
Professional sound recording and production took over, and has become his main
occupation
to date.
Being
the sole operator of his business “Le Mix Production”, Andrew still had
longstanding
working
relationships with some of Toronto’s most successful studios, namely
“Comfort Sound”
And “Number Nine” for over 20 years.
Hundreds
upon hundreds of albums have been recorded, mixed and sometimes produced by
Andrew,
ranging from ethnic percussive music to screaming heavy metal.
It
doesn’t matter what format or budget you are working with, there always is a
“best solution”,
according
to him. The many Juno nominations he has received, sure to support this
statement.
Although Andrew’s strong preference for acoustic music and analog processing
is obvious, technology will not stand in the way, as he is perfectly
comfortable and competent with digital
systems.
As a matter of fact, “Le Mix Production” does a majority of it’s current
work in the Pro Tools HD environment,
being tracking, mixing or mastering.
Andrew has joined forces with Brian Hewson of “Escarpment Sound” in 2004.
This move proved to be a great success and exponentially increased the power
and possibilities for both “Le Mix Production” and “Escarpment Sound”
